Conference Culture & Care: A Joint Call for Change

The conference Culture & Care: A Joint Call for Change – on February 26 and 27, 2026 – explores how culture and care can strengthen and inspire each other in addressing today's societal challenges.

It starts from a shift in care thinking: from care as a purely medical act to care as a shared cultural and human practice. Care is not only about treating illness, but also about prevention, resilience, and quality of life - about how people and communities can thrive.

By bringing art and care into dialogue, the conference examines how this encounter can deepen and enrich care practices. At the same time, this aligns with a broader trend within the artistic sector to anchor itself more strongly in society and to work more participatively.

The conference brings together experts, policymakers, and practitioners from Leuven, Flanders, and Europe who are actively working or wish to work at the intersection of culture and care.

The conference is an initiative of the City of Leuven and KU Leuven, in collaboration with the Flemish Community and the Culture and Health Platform under Culture Action Europe. As part of the path towards LOV2030 - Leuven & Beyond European Capital of Culture 2030.

The language of the conference is English.
